
Indian Space Research Organization Chairman S Somanath attended the 18th convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology near Kattankulathur on Sunday. Speaking at the event, he said that the world is looking at India as an inspirational place with what the country has achieved in the space sector in the last 60 years. Somnath said that he sees a great change in the sector by bringing in startups, incubating them in space technology, and finding great applications to develop rockets and satellites.
Somnath said that the whole world is looking at India as an inspirational place and it is wonderful to see what is happening in India, especially in the space sector, with the startup ecosystem. Somnath also received an honorary Doctorate of Science degree for his contribution to the field of science. He said that we always believed (in others), but others never believed that we could build rockets and build satellites ourselves in this country.

Apart from having a large percentage of satellites we have self-reliance in having our satellites and rockets and placing them in orbit. He said that at present we have more than 50 satellites that are currently in operation and at least three rockets are ready to take off from our soil at any time.

Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India said that India is on the threshold of the scientific revolution. He said that the country's efforts to deal with the challenge of the corona pandemic have taught people that through collective efforts, India can achieve extraordinary progress in the scientific field. Sood said the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser has initiated discussions across government departments and ministries on the launch of a health mission, which would integrate surveillance and control of diseases beyond the scope of humans, livestock, and wildlife.
