Ghaziabad, Feb 9 (IANS) An excise department inspector was injured after being shot at here Sunday midnight, a source said Monday.
The incident occurred while Varun Singh was patrolling the city's Morti locality in view of the counting of votes in Delhi Tuesday and to keep a vigil on smuggling of liquor from neighbouring areas of Delhi, the excise department source said.
However, contradicting the excise department's version, Inspector Ashok Shishodia of the Sihani gate police station said: "Varun Singh was, of course, in his jurisdiction area. But he was not patrolling. He was attending a wedding where he sustained gunshot injury."
Morti locality is under Sihani gate police station.
The injured excise inspector was rushed to the hospital where the doctors said his condition was out of danger.
Varun Singh sustained pellet injuries on his right leg. The pellets have been removed after surgery. The patient has been kept under observation. Otherwise, he is out of danger, said Akhil kumar, manager - hospital operations, Columbia Asia hospital.
