The Kerala Police on Thursday registered a case against 400 people, including Church of South India (CSI) Bishop Dharmaraja Rasalam of South Kerala. The case has been registered last month at the hill station Munnar in the Idukki district on charges of breaking the Covid-19 protocol at a religious function. Let us tell you that this incident came after the death of two priests due to a Coronavirus infection last week. Since then, coronavirus reports of more than 100 priests have been positive.
After the matter came to light, some church priests alleged that disciplinary action was threatened by the authorities if they did not attend the retreat. After which he was forced to join the program. He said that an attempt was also made to suppress the matter and Corona-positive officers were admitted to the medical college being run along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
Regarding the incident, the revenue official said that a case has been registered after investigating the case. Investigations have revealed that the more than 450 people who attended the program, most of whom are pastors, have violated epidemic regulations. District Collector H Dinesh later directed the police to register a case against him. At the same time, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called the incident unfortunate on Wednesday.
Church sources said that some of the young priests had also questioned the timing of the program but had also kept silent due to warnings of disciplinary action by the authorities. At the same time, Jacob Mathew, a member of the Joint Christian Council, said that the Corona rules were broken during the photo session of the retreat. No one is wearing a mask. He said that we had also alerted some officials in this regard but no action was taken. At the same time, the Church said that all precautions were taken during the program and only Corona's report of 28 priests came positive and not 100. The plan of the program was prepared long ago which met all the criteria.
