Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Bhupendra Patel over the phone amidst the deteriorating situation due to heavy rains in Gujarat and floods in many districts. It was told by the Gujarat CM's office that Prime Minister Modi inquired about the serious situation arising out of heavy rains in the state. Chief Minister Patel briefed PM Modi about the situation in the state in the last 48 hours. The CM's office said that Prime Minister Modi assured that the central government will provide all necessary assistance, including NDRF, to deal with the situation.
At the same time, officials said that the rivers are in spate due to rain in the districts of South and Central Gujarat. Due to this, the low-lying areas have been flooded. Around 1,500 people have been evacuated from these areas. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in the next five days in the Dang, Navsari, and Valsad districts of South Gujarat. According to meteorologists, Bodeli taluka in Chhota Udaipur received 433 mm of rain in just 12 hours till 6 pm on Sunday, causing flooding in low-lying areas.
The terrible situation in 48 hours
The situation in Gujarat is getting dire due to the rain for the last 48 hours. Rivers are in spate in Chhota Udaipur and Narmada districts. More than 700 people have been shifted to safer places in the Navsari and Valsad districts of Gujarat. At the same time, a part of the bridge collapsed due to incessant rains in the Chhota Udaipur district. While the bridge connecting Panchol and Kumbhiya villages of the Tapi district of Gujarat was washed away in the torrent of rain. At the same time, in many parts of South Gujarat, the rivers have crossed a dangerous level, due to which the low-lying areas have been flooded.
61 deaths so far
So far this year, 61 deaths have been reported in Gujarat due to rain and floods. Here in Ahmedabad, there is a bad condition due to rain. Everywhere is filled with water. For this reason, schools have also been closed. 13 teams of NDRF and 16 teams of SDRF have been deployed. At the same time, 388 roads in South and Central Gujarat have been closed due to rain.
