The Supreme Court will hear on Friday the application for protection of the 'Shivling' found in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex in Varanasi. A bench will also be constituted to consider the matter.
The Supreme Court has fixed the hearing on the matter of the protection of Shivling at 3 pm tomorrow. In a previous order, the Supreme Court had directed the District Magistrate of Varanasi to ensure that the place where the 'Shivling' was found inside the mosque is kept safe.
Along with this, the top court had also ordered that this should not affect the right of Muslims to offer prayers. The Supreme Court had directed the Varanasi District Judge to decide on the application of Anjuman Intejamiya Masjid Committee of Gyanvapi Masjid seeking quashing of the case. The committee had said that the Gyanvapi case cannot be filed under the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act.
