The much-awaited Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle has finally been launched in India and also made its global debut with it. The new Harley-Davidson X440 is the most affordable offering from the brand ever and is available in three variants. The initial ex-showroom price of the Harley-Davidson X440 bike in the Indian market has been fixed at Rs 2.29 lakh. The X440 has been specially designed for the Indian market in collaboration with domestic two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp. Hero MotoCorp is also manufacturing and distributing this model in the country.
Look and Design
The Harley-Davidson X440 borrows several styling details from the older models in the company's line-up, especially the Harley-Davidson XR1200. The retro design language has been retained with the round headlamp and teardrop-shaped fuel tank. But you do get modern elements like LED lighting, LCD instrument console, and more. The machined alloy wheels with a strong look have been given to the bike.
engine power
The Harley-Davidson X440 gets a newly-developed 398 cc single-cylinder air- and oil-cooled motor for power. This engine produces 27 Bhp of power and 38 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Braking & Suspension
Suspension duties include inverted front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear. While disc brakes are available with standard dual-channel ABS for braking. There is a 320 mm disc brake at the front. Built on a trellis frame, the bike gets USD front forks with a cartridge damping system and twin shock absorbers at the rear with preload adjustability.
The new X440 marks a new chapter for Harley-Davidson globally as the model will cater to the needs of several emerging markets including India. It is also different from the Harley-Davidson X 350 and X 500 models that were introduced for China earlier this year. Hero MotoCorp will handle retail and distribution for Harley in India and the company will expand substantially from the existing 15 dealerships by the end of the year.
competition
However, it won't be easy for the Harley-Davidson X440 as it aims to challenge the reign of market leader Royal Enfield in this segment. Apart from bestsellers like the RE Classic 350 and Meteor 350, the X440 will also compete against the likes of Honda H'ness CB350, Benelli Imperiale 400, and another new offering, the Triumph Speed 400, which is all set to be launched later this week.
