Chandigarh, April 22 (IANS) The Limca Book of Records has included the name of Ranbir Singh, father of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, for his national record of being member of seven different legislatures.
A certificate issued by the Limca book of Records of his national record stated: "Late Ranbir Singh Hooda (Nov 26, 1914-Feb 1, 2009) of Rohtak, Haryana, holds the distinction of being the only person to have served as a member of seven different legislative houses.
"A freedom fighter and Congress leader, he was a member of member of first Constituent Assembly of India, Constituent Legislative Assembly, Provisional Parliament, (Combined) Punjab state assembly, Haryana state assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha."
Ranbir Singh, a former minister in undivided Punjab and freedom fighter, died February 2009 at the age of 94. As minister, he was associated with the construction of the 225-metre high Bhakra Dam on river Sutlej in 1960s.
Hooda has been chief minister of Haryana since March 2005.
