Hydrogen train will run on heritage track this year; Preparation for operations in India after China, France, and Germany

Indian Railways has made preparations to operate hydrogen train trains on major heritage train routes of the country. India will be the fourth country in the world after Germany, China, and France to run trains on hydrogen fuel. During the current year 2023, these trains will be run in the first phase on selected eight major heritage railway track routes.

 

The environment has been taken care of

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in an informal conversation, 'Hydrogen fuse-based trains will be operated on heritage rail routes because of environmental protection. Most of these are narrow gauge lines, where lightweight trains will be run. These trains will be known as 'Vande Metro'. In response to a question, Railway Minister Vaishnav said that Railways need a huge budget. Railways are one of the priorities of the Government of India.

 

Hydrogen trains will pass through different routes

Hydrogen engine on 19.97 km of narrow gauge in Matheran Hills Railway of Central Railway, 88.6 km of narrow gauge line in Northeast Frontier Railway, 95.4 km of narrow gauge line of Kalka-Shimla Railway in Northern Railway, and 164 km of narrow gauge line in Kangra Valley of Northern Railway. Trains will be operated. Similarly, the 62.7 km long meter gauge line of Bilmora Waghai of Western Railway, 58 km long meter gauge of Mahu-Patalpani, 46 km long meter gauge line of Nilgiri Mountain Railway of Southern Railway, and 52 km long meter gauge line of Marwar-Devgarh Madriya of North Western Railway have been converted into hydrogen-powered trains. has been selected.

 

Pollution-free fuel will be used

According to Indian Railways, diesel-engine trains are currently being run on all these heritage railway lines. But all these lines pass through such areas, where the environment is very sensitive. Because of its conservation, pollution-free fuel will be used.
