The Indian Union Muslim League has expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of Wayanad MP and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi during the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Samasta Kerala Jam-Iyathul Ulama's mouthpiece "Suprabham" on April 4 called Priyanka Gandhi's absence a "black spot" and questioned where Priyanka Gandhi was when the BJP was pushing this bill.

Questions were raised about Rahul Gandhi's silence too.

Suprabham also questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence and said that it was the duty of the opposition to speak on this bill. Along with this, the article praised the unity of opposition parties, especially Congress, TMC, and Left parties under the Bharat Alliance. These parties had registered their protest against this bill in Parliament.

Opposition's protest on Waqf Amendment Bill

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain called this bill unconstitutional and unjust. He said, "This is a constitutional problem, this bill is unconstitutional and unjust. This is a targeted bill. The debate in both the houses was very good, but the government remained adamant on its decision." After this, Parliament passed the bill after midnight on Friday.

The objective of Waqf Amendment Bill 2025

The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 aims to amend the Waqf Act of 1995 to improve the administration and management of waqf properties. The bill seeks to remove the shortcomings of the existing Act and will promote the registration process and use of technology to enhance the efficiency of the Waqf Board.
