Impeachment motion submitted against Donald Trump, will he be evicted from power?

Posted on 12th Jan 2021 03:23 pm by rohit kumar

The Democratic Party has submitted two impeachment motions against him in the US Parliament a short while ago over President Donald Trump's role in the violence of the Capitol Building last week.

It has accused Trump of inciting rebellion and claimed that Trump actively encouraged violence in the US Parliament.

Several other leaders of his Democratic Party, including Senate Speaker Nancy Pelosi, want President Trump out of the White House earlier.

One way to remove President Trump from impeachment is the use of impeachment, which is strongly emphasized by Senate Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Democrats want to remove him from office on Wednesday by using impeachment or the 25th amendment to protest the president's attack on the US parliament and for allegedly inciting the rioters inside it.

How will impeachment happen?

Could President Trump be the first US president to come under impeachment twice in history?

The Democratic Party has a majority in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress. Party members are working on it.

One of the two impeachment proposals that have been tabled is prepared by Ilhan Omar, a member of the Democratic Party. So another Jamie Ruskin of this party has prepared.

If there was a vote in the house?

The President needs a majority to impeach the House. The Democratic Party enjoys a majority in the House.

Therefore, there should be no hindrance in it. It is possible that some members of Trump's Republic Party also vote in favor of this motion.

The last time President Trump faced impeachment, the whole process took months.

This time the time is a few days, rather this week will have to be done. Now that the proposal has been tabled, it is expected to discuss and vote on it soon.

Senate requires a two-thirds majority

According to the US constitution, the Senate is required to vote to prosecute and convict the President to remove him from his post.

And to convict the President and remove him from his office, the consent of two-thirds of the senators will be required.

This means that a significant number of Republican Party members will need to vote against the President.

At this time, the Republican Party has a majority in the Senate but only two seats. The question is, will the senators of the Republican Party vote against President Trump?

At present, it is unlikely.

Vote against trump

Senator Lindsay Graham, an ally of President Trump and an important leader of the Republican Party, has broken ties with the President.

But despite this, he says that he will not support removing him from the post.

Senator Mitt Romney, the presidential candidate who lost in 2012, was the only member of the Republican Party to vote against Trump last time.

But this time they say that there is no benefit from impeachment because the time is very short.

But on the one hand, another senator from his party has said that he will vote against Trump.

The reality is that most of the senators of the Republican Party have not yet put forth their opinion.

So what does this mean for Trump?

Doctor Ibrahim Ginsberg, an expert on US law and constitution at the University of Chicago, says in a conversation with the BBC, "This means that impeachment can fail the same way as last time. This time compared to last time, some Republican senators against Trump Have come out openly but most people are still not ready to go against them. "

Even after stepping down from the post, Trump can fall

According to Professor Ginsberg, Trump may be convicted for impeachment even after Trump's presidency, according to the constitution, and he may be banned from contesting for the office of president. When Biden is sworn in, Democrat senators will hold a majority in the Senate. At that time this task may be a little easier.

But Prof. Ginsberg asks whether Biden would prefer to conduct a trial in the Senate or to execute his election promises?

He says that fighting the epidemic will be his priority.

On the other hand, even after securing a majority in the Senate, the Democratic Party needs the support of at least 16 Republican senators. Could it be It is difficult to say at this time?

25th Amendment

But Speaker Nancy Pelosi will try not to reach impeachment and Vice President Mike Pence will use Trump's 25th amendment to remove Trump from his post before January 20 and become acting president himself.

Speaker Pelosi and senior Senate and Democratic Party leader Chuck Schumer have urged Vice President Mike Pence and Trump's cabinet to remove the president from his post to 'incite the rebellion'. Mike Pence would have to use the 25th amendment to do so.

The 25th amendment allows the Vice President to become acting President when a President is unable to continue his duties when he is incapable of doing his job due to physical or mental illness.

But this would require the approval of Vice President Pence and at least eight cabinet members, which is currently unlikely.

According to Professor Ginsberg, the Democratic Party will have to take care that publicly Trump supporters and American citizens do not feel that everyone is after the president. He says, "If this happens, then the sympathy for Trump may increase, which he would like to take advantage of in the next election."
