IND vs AFG 2nd T20I: Ravi Bishnoi Likely to Replace Injured Varun Chakravarthy, India Eye Series Win

Posted on 15th Sep 2026 10:27 am by rohit kumar

India and Afghanistan will face each other in the second T20I of the three-match series today, September 15, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The match will begin at 7:30 PM IST. India lead the series 1-0 after defeating Afghanistan by seven wickets in the opening game.

The Indian team is certain to make at least one change after mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out of the remaining T20Is because of a side strain. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is among the leading candidates to replace him, although the final playing XI will be confirmed only at the toss.

Will Vaibhav Suryavanshi Get a Chance?

The other major selection question is whether young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi will make his way into India's playing XI.

India could retain the opening combination of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson after Abhishek's explosive 82 off 32 balls powered the team to victory in the first T20I. Ishan Kishan also contributed 42 runs in the successful chase.

However, Suryavanshi's inclusion at the expense of Samson is being discussed ahead of the match. Different analysts have suggested different combinations, so his selection remains a key talking point rather than a confirmed change.

India Eye Series Win

India will look to seal the three-match series with another victory in Delhi. Afghanistan, meanwhile, are searching for their first T20I win over India.

After India's victory in the opening match, Afghanistan have now lost nine consecutive T20Is against India.

Ishan Kishan in Top Form in T20Is

Ishan Kishan has been one of India's leading T20I run-scorers in 2026.

He has scored 854 runs in 24 T20I innings, averaging 35.58 and striking at 173.57. His 2026 tally includes one century and six half-centuries.

His 42-run knock in the first T20I further strengthened India's batting unit ahead of the second match.

Arshdeep Singh Leads India's Bowling Attack

Arshdeep Singh has also enjoyed an impressive year in T20Is. He has taken 28 wickets in 19 matches in 2026, making him the leading wicket-taker on the T20I calendar so far. His best figures are 5/51.

He also played a key role in the opening match against Afghanistan, finishing with 3/19.

Rashid Khan Eyes Historic 200-Wicket Milestone

Afghanistan's biggest individual talking point is Rashid Khan.

The star leg-spinner has 193 T20I wickets and needs seven more to become the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in men's T20 internationals.

Rashid will be one of Afghanistan's biggest threats to India's batting lineup in the second T20I.

Ibrahim Zadran Key for Afghanistan

Afghanistan will also rely heavily on captain Ibrahim Zadran to provide stability at the top of the order.

After their batting struggled early in the first match, Afghanistan will need a much stronger start if they are to challenge India's powerful batting lineup.

Pitch Report: Arun Jaitley Stadium

The Delhi pitch generally offers good conditions for stroke-making, while the relatively short boundaries can make the venue favourable for aggressive batting.

Spinners could become increasingly important as the match progresses, making the replacement for Varun Chakravarthy an important selection decision for India.

Probable Playing XI

India: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson/Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah.

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran (C), Gulbadin Naib, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi/Naveen-ul-Haq.

Probable XIs are subject to change after the toss.
