Every month, a portion of your salary is deducted towards the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF). The PF deduction is usually shown clearly on your salary slip. But have you checked whether the contribution is appearing in your EPF account?
Checking your EPF passbook regularly can help you verify whether contributions are being credited correctly and can also help identify discrepancies at an early stage. EPFO provides members with an online passbook facility where they can check their PF transactions using their UAN and password.
What Should You Check in Your EPF Passbook?
When checking your PF passbook, don't just look at the total balance. Check the monthly contribution entries carefully.
For example, if you are checking your passbook in September, look for the contribution corresponding to the previous wage month and compare it with the PF amount shown on your salary slip.
You should also check the applicable entries for:
Employee's EPF contribution
Employer's contribution
Pension/EPS contribution, where applicable
Any previous balance or adjustments
Withdrawals or other transactions
A contribution entry may take some time to appear because of processing. Therefore, a recently missing entry does not automatically mean that the employer has failed to deposit the money.
How to Check EPF Passbook Online
EPFO provides an official Member Passbook facility. Members can log in using their UAN and password to view their PF account details.
1. Check Through the EPFO Portal
Go to the official EPFO Member Passbook service and log in with your UAN, password and captcha. After signing in, select the relevant Member ID to view the account statement.

2. Use the UMANG App
EPFO services are also available through the UMANG app, including EPF-related services. EPFO's official information confirms that its services are available through UMANG.
3. Check Your Previous Member IDs
If you have changed jobs, your UAN may be linked to multiple Member IDs. Select the relevant Member ID when checking contributions from a particular employer.
What If Your PF Contribution Is Not Showing?
If the contribution shown on your salary slip does not appear in the passbook, first compare the relevant wage month and allow reasonable processing time.
If the entry continues to remain missing, contact your company's HR or payroll department and ask them to verify the PF contribution and filing details.
If the issue is not resolved, EPFO provides an online grievance facility where members can lodge complaints and provide their UAN/PF details along with supporting information.
Important: Protect Your UAN and Password
While checking your PF account, be careful of fraudulent calls and messages. EPFO warns members not to share their UAN, password, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details or OTP with unknown persons.
Regularly checking your EPF passbook and contribution history is a simple way to keep track of your retirement savings and spot potential discrepancies early.
