India vs England: England have scored 140 for two in their first innings till tea time on Friday, on the first day of the first Test match with host India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. At the end of lunch, England had lost two wickets for 67 consecutive runs and it seemed that the visiting team has now faltered. But after lunch, Dominic Sibley (53 not out) and captain Joe Root (45 not out), playing the 100th Test match of his career, did not let England get any more shock till tea time.

After lunch, Root led by four runs, and Sibley extended his innings by 26 runs. Both batsmen provided stability to England by playing well. Meanwhile, Sibley scored his fourth half-century of his Test career.

At the time of tee, Sibley returned unbeaten with four fours off 186 balls while Root hit five fours off 100 balls. So far, 77 runs have been shared between the two batsmen for the third wicket. England scored 73 runs in 30 overs without losing any wickets in the second session of the first day.

Earlier, England openers Rory Burns and Dominique Sibley got a great start to their team after winning the toss and batting first. It seemed that on the pitch that was helping the batsmen, both would kick off the first session without any loss. But shortly before lunch, Ravichandran Ashwin brought out the first success for India by getting Burns out. Burns was caught by Rishabh Pant behind the wicket off Ravichandran Ashwin on a personal total of 33. Burns, who hit two fours in 60 balls, shared a 63-run partnership with Sibley.

Danielle Lawrence (0), who came to replace Burns, did not allow Jasprit Bumrah to last long. Lawrence was out lbw facing just five balls. Playing his 18th overall and his first Test in India, Bumrah made his first home hunt as Lawrence. From India, only Ashwin and Bumrah have got one success each.
