Champions Trophy: Captain Rohit wants to experiment in every way before the Champions Trophy, said this after the victory

Skipper Rohit Sharma said on Thursday that the Indian team is not looking to achieve anything special ahead of the Champions Trophy but would like to get as many things right as possible as they did in the first ODI against England. Chasing a modest target of 249, India went from 221 for three to 235 for six. Barring one small hiccup, India performed almost perfectly and took a 1-0 lead in the series with a four-wicket win.

'Let's keep doing things right as much as possible'

"Nothing special. Overall as a team, I want us to keep making sure that we keep doing things right as much as possible. There's nothing special that we want to try to achieve. We want to try and do everything possible in terms of bowling, batting, and things like that. So we were pretty successful in doing that. However, I felt we shouldn't have lost those wickets at the end," Rohit said after the match.

'Such things can go wrong'

He said, 'Players are trying to put pressure on the bowlers and while doing so such things can go wrong.' The Indian captain said that he was satisfied with India's performance as the team was playing ODIs after almost six months. Rohit said, 'I am quite happy because we all knew that we were playing in this format after a long time, so it was important for us to regroup as soon as possible and understand what to do.'

'There is time to come back in the game'

Rohit said, 'This is a slightly longer format where you have time to come back in the game. When things start going away from you a little bit, it does not mean that it will keep going away. You have to try to come back and that is exactly what we did.' He said, 'The credit goes to all the bowlers, everyone contributed to this performance and it was important and necessary for us to continue it.'

Rohit praised Axar Patel.

Rohit praised all-rounder Axar Patel, who came in at number five and scored 52 runs in 47 balls. He said, 'We needed a left-handed player in the middle. We know that England has some spinners who will bowl to left-handed batsmen and we wanted a left-handed batsman on the field.' Rohit said, 'In the last few years we have seen how much Axar has improved as a cricketer, especially with his bat and we got to see it again. We were under a bit of pressure at that time, we needed a partnership, and Gill and Axar batted well.'

Gill and Butler gave this statement.

Shubman Gill, who played an important innings of 87 runs in winning the match, said, 'I was just trying to stay positive. There was a little bit of potential in it for the fast bowlers with the new ball. So the thought process was not to go too much on the back foot and play some good cricket shots.' England captain Jos Buttler expressed disappointment at losing wickets again on this tour and said that a few more runs would have been helpful for his team. Buttler said, "We started well in the powerplay, but we lost wickets. In the end, 40-50 more runs could have been useful, given the type of wicket it was.
