India started with a win in the T20 series against Ireland. He defeated the hosts by two runs based on the Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain-affected first match played in Dublin on Friday (August 18). With this victory, he took a 1-0 lead in the series. In this series for India, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is captaining. Returning after injury, Bumrah made many records besides winning the Player of the Match award with his brilliant bowling.

 

Bumrah captained India for the first time in T20. He has previously led India in a Test against England in 2022. Bumrah made the first match memorable as captain in T20. He took two wickets for 24 runs in four overs. He got two wickets in the very first over. Andrew Balbirnie hit a four on the first ball of Bumrah, but he was clean bowled on the second ball. Lorcan Tucker, who came out to bat after him, tried to scoop, but the ball went in the air, and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson took his catch. In this way, Bumrah got two wickets in one over.

Bumrah created history

Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Match for his killer bowling. He is the first Indian to win this award in the very first match as captain of T20. Till now even veterans like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma could not do this.

 

Ninth captain to win the first match

Bumrah is the 11th captain of India in the T20. Before Bumrah in the shortest format of cricket, India has been captained by Virender Sehwag, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. Of these, only Kohli and Pant had bad luck. Both did not win the first match as captains. The remaining nine players made winning starts.

 

Bumrah reached equal to Ashwin

Taking two wickets against Ireland, Bumrah became the fourth joint-highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is. He reached equal to experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin and Bumrah now have 72-72 wickets. Ashwin played the last match for India on 10 November 2022 against England. It was the semi-final of the T20 World Cup and Team India was defeated by England. Ashwin played 65 T20s for 72 wickets. At the same time, Bumrah equaled him in the 61st match itself.

 

Barry McCarthy made a record

Barry McCarthy, who batted at number eight in the match for Ireland, scored a brilliant half-century. He scored 51 not out. He became the highest run-scorer at number eight in T20Is against India. He broke the record of Keshav Maharaj of South Africa in this matter. Maharaj had scored 41 runs.
