The Indian team made two changes in its playing 11 against New Zealand. Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami were included in place of injured Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur. Shami was appointed as the first change bowler. Shami bowled Will Young on the very first ball of his spell. After this, Shami's havoc was seen throughout the innings. Shami told in the press conference after the match how he made his preparation for the World Cup special. Shami said that he prepared a pitch at his farmhouse, practicing which helped him a lot. This was the reason that his line length was accurate and he was able to achieve success as soon as he got the chance.

The Indian fast bowler also told how he achieved success despite not getting any support on the Dharamshala pitch. He said, "I was completely focused on line and length. This proves to be most effective on this type of pitch. I kept hold of my Tappa and I got a lot of benefit from it. I am happy with my performance.
