In the four-day warm-up match being played against Leicestershire, India declared their first innings at 246/8. Wicket Shrikar Bharat remained unbeaten on 70. At one point India's team was struggling at the score of 138, losing its 6 wickets. But Bharat played a half-century innings and took the team to a respectable score. Leicestershire lost three wickets in their first innings. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami got India the first two wickets. Mohammad Siraj also took two wickets.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas could not do many wonders for India. On the other hand, Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, playing for Leicestershire, could not maintain his county form and returned to the pavilion without opening an account. The team has high hopes for him, as he scored a lot of runs in the county, and based on this he got a place in the Indian team.

After being dropped from the Indian team, Pujara scored 720 runs in 5 matches at an average of 120 in county cricket. During this, his bat scored four centuries including two double centuries. At the same time, in the Ranji Trophy, he played an innings of 91 runs in 83 balls against Mumbai.

India won the toss and decided to bat first. India stumbled after a good start of 35 runs and lost their six wickets on the way to 138 runs. Bharat handled India in this position and reached a respectable score of 246 runs till the stumps. Rain was interrupted for a while during the match but it did not affect Bharat's concentration.

Bharat hit eight fours and a six in his unbeaten 70 off 111 balls. Bharat shared a crucial 66-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Umesh Yadav. Umesh hit four fours in 23 runs off 32 balls. After Umesh's dismissal, Bharat found a good partner in Mohammed Shami who put on an unbeaten 32-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Shami was at the crease after scoring 18 runs in 26 balls till the stumps.

Batting first after winning the toss in the warm-up match, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 35 runs for the first wicket. Gill was dismissed for 21 off 28 balls and Rohit 25 off 47 balls. Hanuma Vihari returned to the pavilion after scoring three runs. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for zero and Ravindra Jadeja scored 13 runs. India lost its fifth wicket at the score of 81. Bharat shared a 57-run partnership for the sixth wicket with former captain Virat Kohli. Virat became the victim of Roman Walker by scoring 33 runs in 69 balls with the help of four fours and a six. Walker demolished Bharat's top order. Walker took five wickets for 24 runs in 11 overs.

For Leicestershire, India's two fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna played. Bumrah got no wicket for 34 runs in nine overs while Krishna got one wicket for 37 runs in 10 overs.
