PM Gati Shakti: Approval of 66 projects worth five lakh crores in four months, DPR being made in less time

Posted on 3rd Mar 2023 12:23 pm by rohit kumar

With the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), the process of approval of infra projects across the country has become much faster. In just four months, 66 projects worth five lakh crore have been approved through PM Gati Shakti NMP. PM Gati Shakti NMP was launched in October last year.

It takes less time to prepare DPR

After the launch of Gati Shakti NMP, the work from the location survey to the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) related to the projects is being completed in half the time as compared to earlier. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is the nodal agency for PM Gati Shakti NMP.

DPIIT is also going to prepare National Logistics Cost Framework soon. At present, the country does not have any logistics cost framework of its own. At present, the logistic cost is calculated based on the estimates of foreign agencies. DPIIT has called a meeting of logistics agencies from India and abroad on March 20 to prepare a logistics cost framework.

Due to the lack of a logistics framework, the basis of logistics cost is not fixed and it is not known how much the logistics cost is decreasing or increasing. Sumita Davra, Special Secretary, DPIIT informed that the evaluation work of 66 greenfield projects worth five lakh crore has been completed and approvals of the state and the Center have been given to them.

Evaluation work of hundreds of projects continues

He informed me that the work of evaluation of 1369 other projects is going on on the Gati Shakti NMP portal. He informed me that with the help of Gati Shakti, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project is now being prepared in just three to four months, which used to take six months earlier.

He informed me that in the financial year 2021-22, the work of the final location survey of only six projects related to railways was completed. With the help of Gati Shakti, the location survey work of 61 projects has been completed so far in the current financial year. Davra informed us that the evaluation of 191 projects related to Sagarmala is also underway on the Gati Shakti NMP portal. Of these, 100 projects are related to roads, while 91 projects are related to railways.

What is PM Gati Shakti?

Projects costing more than 500 crores are appraised on PM Gati Shakti NMP. Various departments of the central government and all the states are associated with PM Gati Shakti NMP and projects are prepared on this portal only. Then it is mixed by going to the field.
