
New Delhi, Jan 28 (IANS) India and Oman will enter into a partnership to expand cooperation in tourism sector, it was announced Wednesday.
The union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its go ahead for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed between the two countries in the matter, an official release said.
The main objectives of the MoU are expansion of bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, exchange of information and data related to tourism, encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders, including hotels and tour operators.
The agreement would also look at establishment of an exchange programme for cooperation in human resource development, investment in the tourism and hospitality sectors, and exchange of visits of tour operators, media and opinion makers for promotion of two-way tourism.
Oman is a strategic partner for India in the Gulf region and an important interlocutor in Arab Gulf Cooperation Council, Arab League and Indian Ocean Rim Association.
In recent years, Oman has emerged as an important tourism source market for India.
