Gold and silver prices surged on August 10, with both precious metals extending their recent gains. According to benchmark rates from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold rose by ₹1,440 per 10 grams to around ₹1.51 lakh, while silver gained ₹1,909 per kilogram to ₹2.33 lakh.
Gold has recorded a sharp increase in August so far, while silver has also seen significant gains. Investors and consumers are closely tracking the latest gold price today and silver price today as precious metals remain in focus.
Gold Price Today: 24-Carat Gold Rises ₹1,440
According to IBJA benchmark rates, 24-carat gold increased by ₹1,440 per 10 grams, taking the rate to approximately ₹1.51 lakh per 10 grams.
The IBJA rates are benchmark bullion prices and are quoted excluding GST and making charges. Actual retail jewellery prices can therefore be higher depending on the jeweller, location, taxes and making charges.
The latest move comes after considerable volatility in the precious-metals market this year, with gold prices responding to global economic conditions, interest-rate expectations, currency movements and investor demand.
Silver Price Today: Silver Climbs ₹1,909
Silver prices also moved sharply higher on August 10.
The IBJA benchmark price of silver increased by ₹1,909 per kilogram to around ₹2.33 lakh. Silver has experienced particularly strong volatility this year, with prices responding to both investment demand and industrial-market expectations.
Recent market reports have also highlighted strong gains in silver alongside gold, supported by factors including movements in the US dollar and Treasury yields.
Gold and Silver Prices Surge in August
Gold and silver have both shown strong movements during August. The precious-metals market has remained volatile, making the latest daily price changes important for consumers, traders and investors.
Gold has also traded substantially above its levels from the end of 2025, although the exact year-to-date comparison should be checked against the relevant IBJA historical benchmark before publication.
IBJA publishes benchmark opening and closing rates for different gold purities and silver. These rates are widely used as a reference for bullion transactions and are separate from the final price consumers pay for jewellery.
Can Gold Reach ₹1.60 Lakh?
Commodity-market expert Ajay Kedia expects gold to remain in focus after the recent correction from its record levels.
According to the outlook cited in the report, Kedia expects gold to potentially reach ₹1.60 lakh, while silver could move towards ₹2.80 lakh by the end of the year.
However, these are market forecasts rather than guaranteed price levels. Precious-metal prices can change quickly depending on global interest rates, the US dollar, geopolitical developments, central-bank buying and investor demand.
Kedia has also advised caution around making large lump-sum investments after sharp price movements.
Gold and Silver ETFs: How to Invest
Investors who want exposure to gold or silver without purchasing physical metal can consider Gold ETFs and Silver ETFs.
Exchange-Traded Funds are traded on stock exchanges and are designed to track the underlying price of gold or silver. Unlike physical bullion, investors do not receive gold or silver bars or coins when purchasing ETF units.
To invest in ETFs, investors generally need a demat and trading account with a registered broker. ETF units can then be bought and sold through the exchange in a manner similar to shares.
The minimum investment depends on the ETF's market price and the number of units purchased, so investors should check the latest price and product details before investing.
How to Buy Gold and Silver ETFs
The basic process is:
Open a demat and trading account with a broker.
Search for the relevant Gold ETF or Silver ETF on the stock exchange.
Place a buy order through the trading platform.
Once the transaction is settled, the ETF units are credited to the demat account.
Investors can sell the units through their trading account when they select to exit.
ETF prices fluctuate with the underlying precious-metal market, so investors should consider market risk, expense ratios, liquidity and tracking differences before investing.
Gold and Silver Price Outlook
The latest rise in gold and silver prices keeps precious metals firmly in focus among Indian investors.
Gold's role as a safe-haven asset, changing interest-rate expectations and movements in the US dollar could remain important drivers. Silver may also benefit from industrial demand in addition to investment flows.
For consumers planning to buy jewellery, it is important to remember that IBJA benchmark rates are not the final retail jewellery price. GST, making charges and jeweller premiums can increase the amount paid at the time of purchase.
