New Delhi, March 27 (IANS) India-Qatar relations have gone beyond trade and energy and the two countries are looking forward to strengthening ties in multiple sectors including in social security, says eminent cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan.

The Gurgaon-based Medanta - the Medicity, a unit of Global Health Pvt Ltd - recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar-based Humanis Group to explore the possible development and delivery of healthcare services through super specialty hospitals in the Qatari capital.

"The relation between India and Qatar is strengthening and the two countries are currently looking forward to collaborate at multiple levels," the Medanta Group chairman told IANS on the sidelines of the India-Qatar joint economic and business meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

Trehan signed the MoU with Humanis Group chairman Mohan Thomas in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, minister of economy & commerce, State of Qatar.

"We plan to initially set up a 500-bed, super-specialty facility and provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to Qatari people," Thomas said.

The minister has assured us all support from the government, Thomas said.

Around 600,000 Indian nationals work in Qatar, comprising the largest expatriate community in the country.

India and Qatar earlier inked six agreements, including on transfer of sentenced prisoners, when Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on energy, investment and people-to-people ties on Wednesday.
