IPL: Shreyas is the first captain to take three teams to the finals; Know when the same teams clashed in Q1 and title matches

Punjab Kings team has reached the final of IPL 2025. It defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the IPL Qualifier-2 match on Sunday. With Punjab's victory, it was decided that a new team would become the champion of IPL 2025. Both RCB and Punjab have never won the title before. Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant captaincy innings and led his team to victory over five-time champion Mumbai Indians. Shreyas played an unbeaten innings of 87 runs in 41 balls with the help of five fours and eight sixes. He was also named Player of the Match.

 

Shreyas's dominance in IPL

 

In the last six years, Shreyas has reached three different finals with three different teams. He is the first captain to reach the IPL final with three different teams. Shreyas has previously reached the IPL final with Delhi Capitals in the year 2020 and with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. Under his captaincy, KKR also won the title last year. Now he would like to become a champion with the Punjab team this year. Shreyas was bought by Punjab in the mega auction.

 

In Qualifier-1 also, there was a match between Shreyas' Punjab team and RCB. Then RCB registered an easy win. Punjab was bundled out by RCB for 101 runs. Now again both the teams will clash in the final. This is the 12th time in the history of the league when the same teams will clash in Qualifier-1 and Final.

 

What happened in the Qualifier-2 match?

 

With the help of Shreyas Iyer's stormy innings, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the second qualifier on Sunday. Now Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final on June 3 and both the teams have not won the title even once in 18 years. Shreyas, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title under his captaincy last year, played a mature innings in moments of pressure and took Punjab to the final for the first time in 11 years. The target of 204 runs to win was not easy in front of Mumbai's dangerous bowling attack, but Shreyas created a new definition of aggressive batting. Punjab Kings scored 207 runs for five wickets and won the match. Shreyas led the team to victory by hitting a six on the last ball of the 19th over. Earlier, the match started with a delay of two and a quarter hours due to rain.
