Indian Railways has rolled out a major upgrade to its online ticket booking system with the launch of a new IRCTC website on July 15. The revamped platform is designed to make train ticket booking faster, smoother, and more user-friendly, especially during high-demand periods such as Tatkal bookings.
With a booking capacity of over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, the new portal is expected to significantly reduce website slowdowns and improve the overall passenger experience.
IRCTC Website Now Books 1.5 Lakh Tickets Per Minute
The biggest highlight of the upgraded IRCTC portal is its massive increase in booking capacity.
The previous system could process around 32,000 tickets per minute, while the new platform can handle more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings every minute. This enhancement is expected to reduce congestion, improve website speed, and minimize booking failures during peak hours.
New Features Introduced on the IRCTC Website
The redesigned IRCTC portal comes with several passenger-friendly features aimed at making ticket booking more convenient:
Preferred seat selection during ticket booking
Fare calendar to compare ticket prices across multiple travel dates
Support for multiple Indian languages
Integrated booking options for differently-abled passengers, students, and patients
These additions are intended to simplify the booking process and improve accessibility for all users.
Cleaner Interface with Less CAPTCHA Hassle
IRCTC has also redesigned the website interface to provide a smoother user experience.
Key improvements include:
Reduced CAPTCHA verification during booking
Removal of unnecessary pop-ups and flashing graphics
Faster navigation with a simplified booking process
These changes aim to reduce delays and make online reservations quicker than before.
Seat Availability Across All Classes on One Screen
One of the most useful upgrades is the single-screen seat availability feature.
Passengers can now check availability for Sleeper, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and other classes on one page, eliminating the need to search each class separately. This allows users to compare options more efficiently before confirming their booking.
Why Did Indian Railways Upgrade the Website?
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the launch of the upgraded IRCTC portal after passengers repeatedly highlighted issues such as slow website performance, booking failures, and heavy traffic during Tatkal reservations.
The modernization initiative aims to improve digital infrastructure, enhance booking speed, and deliver a seamless online ticket reservation experience for millions of railway passengers across India.
How Passengers Will Benefit
The upgraded IRCTC website is expected to offer multiple benefits, including:
Faster train ticket booking
Better Tatkal booking success rates
Reduced website crashes during peak hours
Easier fare comparison
Improved accessibility and multilingual support
Simplified booking process with fewer CAPTCHA interruptions
The new platform marks one of the biggest technological upgrades to the IRCTC booking system in recent years, making online railway reservations faster and more efficient than ever before.
