JPC on Waqf Bill: After an uproar, the government presented a corrigendum in Parliament, and opposition members took a jibe

BJP's Medha Vishram Kulkarni introduced a corrigendum in the Upper House on Thursday afternoon after the opposition parties created a ruckus over the alleged deletion of parts related to dissent in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf Amendment Bill. Kulkarni introduced the corrigendum to Appendix Five of the report after the lunch break in the Rajya Sabha. He had presented the report in the House in the morning.

An opposition member took a jibe.

Chapter five of the appendix to the report deals with 'Minutes of comments/dissent received from the members of the Joint Committee' and includes comments that were edited in the report presented earlier. As soon as the BJP member introduced the corrigendum, an opposition member quipped that it proved that the House was misled by a minister earlier.

Thanking the government for the corrigendum, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said, 'It shows that parliamentary institutions are flourishing and sentiments are being taken care of. We want things to happen only through dialogue and deliberation. 'However, opposition MPs said that this was done under their pressure.

Opposition is fighting constructively - TMC leader.

Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale said that the government was forced to submit the Waqf JPC with the opposition dissent notes without being removed. The opposition is fighting constructively to save the institutions. When the report was presented in the first house on Thursday, Gokhale had demanded that Rijiju should answer whether any amendments were made in the dissent notes.

The government rejected the opposition's allegation in both houses.

The government rejected this allegation in both houses, saying that no dissent has been removed and the opposition is doing vote bank politics in this matter.

In the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah intervened and said that some opposition parties claim that their objections and disagreements have not been given space.

I request them on behalf of my party (BJP) whatever objections you have, you can include them in the report as per parliamentary traditions. My party has no objection to this.
