Karnataka Masjid Controversy: Section 144 imposed in Srirangapatna city due to mosque dispute, VHP has called for a rally today

Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Srirangapatna town of Mandya district of Karnataka. This will be applicable from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturday. This step has been taken because of today's call of 'Srirangapatna Chalo' by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

 

Because of the call of VHP, more than 500 policemen have been deployed. Four check posts have been set up. Route march was also taken out in the presence of SP N Yatish.

Deputy commissioner Ashwathi S said that the weekly market which usually takes place every Saturday will not be held today. He said that today a ban has been imposed on the sale of liquor in the 5 km range of Srirangapatna.

The deputy commissioner said, 'Today the Masjid road has been closed. People are not allowed to enter the mosque. CCTV cameras have been installed to deal with any untoward incident. A special team has been formed to keep an eye on suspicious activities.

In fact, like the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi, a dispute has started regarding the Jamia Masjid at Srirangapatna in the Mandya district. Hindu organizations claim that the mosque has been built on the ruins of a Hanuman temple. He also talked about approaching the court in this matter. In this regard, Hindu organizations also submitted a memorandum to Mandya Deputy Commissioner Ashwathi S and demanded a survey of the mosque.

 

Masjid came into the limelight on 16 April

 

It is believed that the Jamia Masjid was built by Tipu Sultan, the former ruler of Mysore. This mosque came into the limelight when Hindu organizations announced the arrival of six lakh garlanded devotees to Srirangapatna on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on 16 April. He had also sought permission from the administration for this. Due to this, a law and order situation had arisen there. The Masjid Committee had also demanded the administration provide security.

 

There is no dome in the mosque

 

Jamia Masjid is also known as Masjid-e-Ala. It is located inside the Srirangapatna Fort. Built-in 1786-87, this mosque has two minarets, which are built on a high platform. A balance separates each step of the tower. This mosque is two-storeyed. It has no dome. This mosque is administered by the Bangalore Circle of the Archaeological Survey of India.
