Know why Rohit Sharma flopped in 5 reasons: The bat did not move in front of fast bowling, looked mentally tired

Posted on 24th May 2022 01:19 pm by rohit kumar

Rohit Sharma has always been considered one of the most talented players of the current era. Legendary player Adam Gilchrist had said in the second season of IPL held in 2009 that Hitman is fully prepared for captaincy. The time also came, when this year Rohit was made the captain of all three formats of Team India.

After taking over the command of the Indian team, it was expected that Rohit would lead Mumbai to the IPL trophy for the sixth time with his performance. In 14 matches of IPL 2022, Rohit scored only 268 runs at an average of 19. During this, his strike rate was 120. Rohit could not become a strong link in the weak batting lineup of Mumbai Indians.

1. Weak foot movement affected Rohit's game

Rohit's hand-eye coordination has always been excellent. Along with this, his foot movement used to be the specialty of Rohit's batting. In IPL 2022, Rohit's feet did not move at all. Instead of going to the pitch of the ball, he was seen trying to make a standing shot. As a result, they lost their wickets in this sequence.

Rohit's childhood coach Dinesh Lal also agrees with this. Dinesh explains that the feet of the hitman is not moving as much as is necessary during the batting. However, Dinesh expects Rohit Sharma to return to form soon.

2. The pressure to repeat the success showed in Rohit's performance

No captain has won five trophies in IPL to date. The pressure to repeat this success was visible on Rohit. After the failure of the last season, he was seen trying to do something different in every match. If there was a problem while opening, Rohit could have played a few matches in the middle order.

Instead of the seam and swing of the opening over, it would have been better for Rohit if he had come out to bat after the help from the pitch to the fast bowlers is over. Big innings could have returned Rohit's confidence in the IPL, which would have strengthened the team's batting. Rohit tried every trick to get success early in the season, however, he could not succeed.

3. Rohit could not stand in front of fast bowling

This time Rohit's bat did not play at all in front of the fast bowlers. He was a victim of fast bowlers 9 times in 14 innings. Rohit scored 219 runs in front of the fast bowlers. During this, his strike rate remained only 121. Rohit, who used to hit the pull shot continuously in front of fast bowling, could hit only 12 sixes and 24 fours in front of him this season. Rohit's weakness to play fast bowling overshadowed the entire team.

4. Hitman playing cricket continuously looked mentally exhausted

Rohit is playing cricket continuously. Due to this mental fatigue was also seen in his game. After the team's last league match, the hitman admitted that a lot of the things I wanted to do, couldn't do this season. Rohit says- I am very disappointed with my performance. However, this has happened to me before. I will try to get back in form keeping in mind the mental aspect. Whenever I get off time for this, I will make some changes in the way I play.

5. Failure of other batters increased the pressure on Rohit

The impact of the failure of Mumbai's leading batsmen was also visible on Rohit's batting, one of the top three white ball batsmen of world cricket. Although Ishan Kishan crossed the 400-run mark by the end of the season, his performance did not live up to the expectations during the 8 defeats the team got in the beginning. In such a situation, Rohit could not openly plan his innings.

Mumbai's middle-order came under pressure due to a disappointing performance from Kieron Pollard. Until MI was completely out of the IPL, Pollard continued to be given a chance in the playing 11. With the absence of Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, MI was also yearning for the best playing XI in the opening matches.

Earlier, Rohit was able to play shots freely, as he was sure of finishing the match against Pollard and Pandya Brothers in the middle order. This time it was not like that. Mumbai finished the season with 4 wins in the last six matches. The team has also got a reliable match finisher like Tim David.

It is expected that now the team management must have understood the combination of the players properly. In such a situation, Rohit will be able to bat freely without taking the pressure of the performance of the batsmen coming later next year.
