Narendra Giri's body was found hanging from a fan in Prayagraj's Baghambri Math exactly a week ago. A suicide note was also recovered from his room. In this, apart from the disciple Anand Giri, Aadya Tiwari, who was the priest of the Hanuman temple, and his son Sandeep Tiwari were accused of harassing them. In the suicide note, Anand Giri was accused of making a video of Mahant Narendra Giri with a girl and blackmailing her through it. Anand Giri was arrested from Haridwar on the same day of the incident. Aadya Tiwari and her son Sandeep were arrested the next day and sent to jail. After the arrest, Anand Giri had spoken of implicating himself, accusing him of killing Narendra Giri.

Because of the many mysterious situations regarding Mahant's death, the SIT was first directed to investigate the matter. But later the investigation was handed over to the CBI.
