Satara (Maharashtra), Feb 13 (IANS) In a bizarre move, education officials in Satara district have directed all schools and colleges to celebrate Valentines Day Saturday as Mothers Day and sing poems dedicated to mothers, an official said here Friday.
The stern circular, which has been accessed by IANS, ordering all schools and colleges to celebrate Valentines Day as Mother's Day has kicked up a raging controversy in academic circles.
It was sent to hundreds of public and private primary schools and around 25 colleges in the district Feb 11, asking them to celebrate V-Day with a difference by dedicating it to mothers.
All educational institutions were also directed to make the students sing a well-known poem dedicated to mothers "Hambrun Vasar Aale Chaat-ti Jawa Gai..."
They were further instructed to immortalize the new style of V-Day celebrations by clicking photographs and submitting them to the district education Officer.
