West Indies limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard has retired from international cricket. He announced his retirement on Wednesday (April 20). Pollard, who made his international debut in 2007, played a total of 224 international matches in his career. Pollard is currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pollard captained the team in ODIs for the first time in 2013. In 2019, he got a chance to be captain of T20.

 

 

The 33-year-old Pollard played the first ODI against South Africa in 2007. His last ODI match was against India on 6 February 2022 in Ahmedabad. Talking about T20, Pollard played his first match against Australia in 2008 at Bridgetown. His last T20 match was against India in Kolkata on 20 February 2022.

 

Announcing his retirement, he said, "I am grateful to the various selectors, team management, and especially coach Phil Simmons for seeing the potential in me and believing in me throughout my career. It was particularly brilliant. I took the challenge by leading the team. I especially thank Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt for his unwavering support and encouragement during my time as captain."

 

Pollard's captaincy record

 

Pollard captained the West Indies in 24 ODIs. During this 12 matches were won and in 12 they had to face defeat. Talking about T20 cricket, he led the team in 39 matches. During this, Pollard won 13 matches and lost 21 matches. There were no results in five matches.

 

Six sixes were hit in one over

 

Pollard had hit six sixes in an over in 2021 against Sri Lanka. He had hit six consecutive sixes in Akila Dhananjay's over. Pollard was the second batsman to do so in T20 Internationals after former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
