Announcing his retirement, he said, "I am grateful to the various selectors, team management, and especially coach Phil Simmons for seeing the potential in me and believing in me throughout my career. It was particularly brilliant. I took the challenge by leading the team. I especially thank Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt for his unwavering support and encouragement during my time as captain."
