Strict action will be taken if new guidelines are not followed

The central government has decided to extend the nationwide lockdown for 14 days till May 31. But at the same time, if the new guidelines are not followed properly then strict action will be taken under the Indian Penal Code and Disaster Management Act. The nationwide lockdown was first implemented from 21 March for 21 days and subsequently extended on 15 April and then 4 May. The government has adopted these measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

This is the fourth time the lockdown has been extended in the country. However, to speed up the economy this time, some of the limited virus infected areas have been relaxed. The Home Ministry warned, "Whoever defies the guidelines will take strict action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 188 of the IPC and other legal provisions."

The government said that if a person discharges the duties of an officer or violates the guidelines issued by the central or state government, he will have to serve a one-year jail sentence or pay a fine.
