The US has expressed concern over the supply of S-400 surface-to-air missile defense systems from Russia to India. A Pentagon official said that however, no decision has been taken yet on what stand the US should take on the deal and how to deal with it.
The S-400 is Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defense system. America always strongly opposes its buying and selling. It can also impose restrictions on the countries that buy it.
IAF did not comment on supplies
However, there has been no official comment from the Indian Air Force on the supply of this state-of-the-art missile defense system from Russia. Dmitry Shugaev, director of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told Sputnik news agency last week that the delivery of the missiles was going as planned.
On the other hand, US Defense Establishment (Pentagon) spokesman John Kirby has said that we are very clear with the Indian partner about our attitude regarding this system. Kirby said this at a press conference on Monday. He was asked to what extent the US Defense Department is worried about India getting the first batch of S-400? Kirby said that the US has yet to decide how to deal with this transaction between India and Russia.
"We are concerned about this system, but I don't have any updates for the media," he said. Last month, when US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman visited India, she said that any country's decision to use the S-400 system is dangerous and not in anyone's security interest.
It is believed that the supply of parts of this Russian missile system to India has started and all its major parts are about to reach India.
