Modi targets Election Commission

Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh), May 8 (IANS) BJP leader Narendra Modi Thursday accused the Election Commission of bias and asked it to ensure free and fair polls in the last phase of Lok Sabha election May 12.

Addressing a large public gathering in Azamgarh, where Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting, the BJP's prime ministerial aspirant alleged large-scale bungling during voting in states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

But the Election Commission, he said, had not intervened.

He also accused Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son-cum-Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of "plundering Uttar Pradesh" and said goons were having a free run in the sprawling state.

As the crowds cheered him, Modi asked people to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party so that it wins most of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Azamgarh will go to polls May 12 along with Varanasi where Modi is the BJP candidate.
