Modi terms UPA 'mother-son' government, hits out at 'RSVP model'

Barpeta (Assam)/Katihar (Bihar), April 19 (IANS) BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Saturday fired fresh salvos at the Congress, terming the UPA a "mother-son" government and raking up the alleged land deals of Robert Vadra by saying that the country wants to know about the "RSVP (Rahul, Sonia, Vadra, Priyanka) model".

Addressing rallies in Bihar and Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said the Congress was sure to be defeated in the Lok Sabha elections.

In his rallies in Assam, Modi challenged Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to "a face-off" as they were both addressing rallies in the state.

"Rahul Gandhi, you are also in Assam today (Saturday). I am also here. So let's have a face-off," Modi said at Barpeta. Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Nagaon.

Attacking the Congress and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Modi said: "Just tell me why is a mill here in Assam closed? What is your chief minister doing? He has been selected three times and he can't even start a mill which will provide employment to the youth."

Urging people to vote for the BJP, Modi said the Congress will not do anything for the common man.

Hinting at the allegations that Sonia Gandhi went through files from the Prime Minister's Office, Modi said the country "cannot be run by remote control" and accused the Congress of making false promises.

He urged voters to give the BJP at least 300 seats to form a strong government.

Addressing a rally in Katihar in Bihar, Modi raked up the alleged land deals by Vadra and said the country wants to know about the "RSVP model".

Modi, who has been under attack from the Congress over his Gujarat model of development, referred to Vadra and said India wants to know about the model in which "Rs.1 lakh become Rs.300 crore in four years".

"They ask for RSVP in big functions. In India's politics, we have RSVP too and a media house threw light on their activities," Modi said.

"Rahul, Sonia, Vadra and Priyanka... this is the RSVP model. Rahulji, you talk on Gujarat model but the nation wants to know this model," Modi said.

Vadra is the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Referring to the United Progressive Alliance as a "mother-son" government, Modi urged people to get rid of the model for real development and change in their lives.

"If you want change in life and better days, get rid of the mother-son model of government. Vote for BJP to form a strong and stable government to bring change in your lives," he said.

Modi also addressed another election meeting in Supaul parliamentary constituency, where he again targeted the Gandhis as well as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Janata Dal-United.
