Monkeypox: Scientists in many countries of the world have seen significant changes in the Congolese form of monkeypox infection. Whether there are such changes in the infected patients who have come forward in India so far? A team of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) based in New Delhi has also started a study regarding this.
Scientists believe that the study will know the severity of the virus so that it can be prevented. At the same time, there have been many cases in which no symptoms have been shown. Dr. Vinod Scaria, Senior Scientist of IGIB based in New Delhi said, recently a patient from the UK reached America, who was infected with monkeypox. But he had no history of intimate contact, viral prodrome, or wounds.
He told that such cases have been found in many countries in which there were no symptoms of infection. One such case was also reported in India when a young man died in Kerala. There were no wounds on the skin of the deceased youth.
Monkeypox is not fatal in India
Former ICMR epidemiologist Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar said, “Monkeypox infection is not fatal for India, as the situation in our country is quite different as of now compared to the US and UK. However, he has also been advised to continue monitoring the infection under epidemiology.
