The United Kisan Morcha has raised questions on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) committee constituted by the central government. The United Kisan Morcha dismissed the government's committee on minimum support prices, saying so-called farmer leaders supporting the repealed agricultural laws were its members. Morcha said there is no mention of legislation on MSP in the agenda of the committee, but those who support agricultural laws have been included in the committee. Attempts have been made to weaken the farmers.
Farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar said that we held a meeting of non-political leaders of United Kisan Morcha. All the leaders rejected the government's panel. The government has empaneled so-called farmer leaders who had nothing to do with our agitation against the three agricultural laws.
Kohar said that the government has also made some corporate people members of the MSP panel. The SKM will issue a detailed statement on its stand in the evening. Announcing the repeal of three agriculture laws in November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to set up a committee to discuss farmers' demand for a legal guarantee on MSP.
United Kisan Morcha said that they had demanded to form a committee only based on MSP. Questions have also been raised about the absence of any representative of Punjab, Haryana, and UP governments in the committee. Like Swaminathan, it will remain a paper committee. The committee promised by the Prime Minister in his announcement on 19 November to repeal the three black laws has finally been announced. The notification of this committee constituted by the government on July 12 has become public on July 18. The panel will include Ramesh Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, CSC Shekhar, agro-economists from the Indian Institute of Economic Development, Sukhpal Singh of IIM-Ahmedabad and Naveen P Singh, a senior member of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
Raghav Chadha files suspension letter
On the other hand, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has filed a suspension letter in the Rajya Sabha for keeping Punjab out of the MSP committee. Chadha said the MSP committee constituted by the Government of India includes supporters of the BJP and supporters of the three black laws. Punjab, which is called the food bowl of India, has not been given official representation in this committee. The government is not serious about the legal guarantee of minimum MSP.
