The Meteorological Department said that the pace of the monsoon has been very slow for the last few days. Even the southwest monsoon has not advanced beyond June 11. However, now the department says that the monsoon is likely to gain momentum from June 18.

weak start of the monsoon

The India Meteorological Department announced the onset of monsoon on 8 June. Experts had warned at that time also that the onset of monsoon would be weak and the pace would also be slow.

Some experts also believed that the rains in some places were not due to the monsoon but due to the interaction of Cyclone Biperjoy. The IMD said Biparjoy had initially aided the monsoon.

cyclone separated from the monsoon cycle

IMD Director General M Mohapatra said that due to the cyclone, the flow of air from the southern region to the northern region had intensified. He said the cyclone moved very slowly and helped the monsoon advance. The cyclone has now separated from the monsoon cycle.

Monsoon speed will increase after June 18

According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone may hurt the monsoon till June 18 and after that, the pace of the monsoon may increase. Monsoon is likely to advance further from June 18 and cover more parts of East India by June 21. This effect can also be seen in Central and Northwest India, although there will be no rain till then.
