The capitals of the major and important provinces of Afghanistan are constantly being captured by the Taliban. Now the Taliban have captured the Afghan city of Ghazni. This capture of the Taliban is also increasing concern because it has reached closer to the country's capital Kabul. Ghazni city is only 150 km away from Kabul. Ghazni is the tenth provincial capital that the Taliban captured this week. The Afghan security forces seem to be defeated in front of the Taliban and now the US has also expressed concern that Kabul will come under Taliban control within the next 90 days.
The head of Ghazni's provincial council, Nasser Ahmad Faqiri, said the Taliban had captured key areas of the city such as the governor's office, police headquarters, and prison. He also said clashes with Afghan forces were continuing in several parts of the city, but most of it appeared to be under the control of the fighters. The news agency AFP contacted the Taliban to confirm this.
In a statement released on social media by a Taliban spokesman, it has been confirmed that the city of Ghazni is now under Taliban control. Ghazni city is situated along the important highway between Kahul-Kandahar. It is believed that after the Taliban capture this city, the pressure on the Afghan security forces will increase further. At least 10 provincial capitals have been raided by the Taliban in less than a week.
