We may soon be able to talk to animals. Scientists around the world are trying to talk to bees, elephants, and whales with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). However, this unique technology also has some disadvantages. Experts believe that with the power of AI, we can control wild animals to our advantage.
Scientists are understanding non-human voices
Professor Karen Backer of the University of British Columbia told Vox that a research team in Germany has learned to decode non-human voices. They are detecting the wobbling of bees and the low-frequency sounds of elephants with the help of AI. With this, not only will we be able to talk to animals, but we will also be able to control them.
Humans can misuse
Backer further said that AI technology that talks to animals can be further applied to robots, which will promote communication between the two species. This in itself is a huge success, but it also raises important ethical questions.
Backer says that with the help of new technology, we can get a sense of control over wild animals or manipulate their lives. Humans have not been able to completely domesticate wild animals so far, but dominating them can become our aim.
Confused bees with technology
In 2018, Germany's Dahlem Center for Machine Learning and Robotics created a Robo-Bee, which can move like a bee. This is the main way for these creatures to talk to each other. In an experiment, the robot was released among real bees.
The robot had managed to confuse the bees. The creatures followed his movements and also obeyed him about where to go in the hive. Backer believes that we can take over the homes of bees, which can harm their species.
Project launch to talk to whales
In October 2021, a team of international scientists launched Project CETI to talk to sperm whales. Under this, human language will be related to the language of whales. This experiment will last for 5 years, after which a robot will be made and will be released into the ocean to talk to the whale.
