IPL team Punjab Kings has appointed Mayank Agarwal as its new captain. Punjab team will play in IPL 2022 under Mayank's leadership. Before Mayank Agarwal, Lokesh Rahul was the captain of this team. Agarwal has earlier captained Punjab in a match in which his team had to face defeat. This season, he was already considered to be the captain. Before the mega auction, the Punjab team had retained only two players. Mayank Agarwal was the first player to be stopped by the franchise. Apart from him, uncapped fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was retained. After this, Mayank's captaincy was believed to be fixed.

The team of Punjab Kings has announced the new captain on their social media handle. On being made the captain of the team, Agarwal said that he is very happy to get the captaincy of Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. This time he will try to win the title for Punjab. The Punjab team has not won any IPL trophy so far.

Punjab team is in Group B

Punjab has been placed in Group B in IPL 2022. In this, he will have to play two matches each with Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore, and Gujarat. At the same time, one match will have to be played against Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, and Lucknow.

Before Mayank, Rahul was the captain

Lokesh Rahul was the captain of Punjab Kings before Mayank to Agarwal. Under his leadership, Punjab did well in two seasons. However, before the mega auction, Rahul decided to distance himself from the team. After this, the team of Lucknow joined him in a draft for Rs 17 crore. After this, Mayank was a strong contender for the captaincy and now he has been handed over the command of the team. The performance of the team under Rahul's captaincy was not special and his team had lost many close matches in the last season. The team was ranked sixth in the points table. Punjab had won six matches out of 14, while they had to face defeat in eight.

Before the 2022 mega auction, Punjab had retained the least number of players. Punjab had retained only two players and entered the auction with the highest amount of money. Now this team has excellent players like Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow.
