The agency quoted sources as saying that a team of SPG comprising two doctors and soldiers had come to Canine Research and Information Centre, (Mudhol Hound), Timmapur on April 25. Two Mail Puppies are taken from here. Mudhol Hound is the first indigenous breed to be included in the SPG squad. Sources said that Dr. BN Panchbuddhe and the team of trainers had contacted the Bagalkot district administration and the office of the Superintendent of Police, New Delhi, following which the process was facilitated.

Mudhol hound dogs have been used by hunters since the time of the kings. The lean and long body and the small head are the distinguishing features of this breed. The Mudhol Hound breed is also known for its uncanny ability to sniff and smell. They also run long distances without getting tired. They grow up to 72 centimeters and weigh between 20 and 22 kilograms.
