Kolkata, March 29 (IANS) The Election Commission Saturday said it has received a report from the Nadia district magistrate following complaints lodged by opposition parties against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her alleged provocative speeches against the BJP and CPI-M at a rally there.
The commission will be forwarding the report to the Election Commission in New Delhi, according to Amit Roy Chaudhury, officer on special duty and ex-officio joint secretary.
"We are scrutinising the report and we will forward it to Delhi," he told reporters here.
In her speech, Banerjee had allegedly trained her guns on the parties for colluding in encouraging communalism in the state.
The commission is also in possession of the preliminary report regarding the Trinamool Congress's complaint against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for the alleged presence of school students at an election rally addressed by him at Alipurduar in the state's Jalpaiguri district recently, said assistant chief electoral officer Amitjyoti Bhattacharji.
Trinamool's Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mondal, who had allegedly used offensive words during a workers' meeting, has been served a showcause notice by sub-divisional officer (SDO) Katwa in Burdwan district.
Trinamool MP Sougata Roy, who was under the commission's scanner for allegedly urging party workers to capture polling booths, at a gathering in his constituency, has been slapped with a showcause notice by the disrtict magistrate in North 24-parganas district.
Roy, a candidate for Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency in the district, exhorted party workers to "pay back the CPI-M in the same vein" while reminding them of the Marxist party's violent activities and booth capturing during previous polls.
A showcause notice has also beengiven to Bengali moviestar Dev for his alleged "rape" comments.
Dev, the Trinamool candidate from Ghatal constituency, was recently embroiled in a controversy over his 'rape' comments that led to outrage from the opposition and people. After likening the Lok Sabha poll frenzy to "being raped", the movie star apologised for his comments.
