Cold weather continues in North India. People are troubled by heavy snowfall in the hilly areas, rain and cold wave in the plains. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be dense fog in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi for the next two days. The cold wave prevailing in these states from January 25 to 27 will increase chills.

 

Snowfall may continue for another 4 days in Uttarakhand, Himachal, Kashmir. The January rains in Delhi have broken the record. It rained 8.8 cm on Sunday, the highest in 122 years.

 

Rain expected in seven states

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be rain in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh on Monday. It will be cloudy in some areas. However, the weather is likely to clear after that.

 

Madhya Pradesh: Cold will increase in most areas of the state

 

Meteorologist PK Saha said that from Monday, there is a possibility of increasing cold in most areas of the state including Bhopal. The days have turned cold again due to rain on Sunday. Bhopal recorded 1.2 mm of rain till 8:30 am. Due to the cold wind blowing at a speed of about 20 km, the mercury dropped by 5 degrees to 21 degrees during the day. Mawtha rained in 36 districts of the state.

 

Rajasthan: Now till January 27, cold wave

The effect of Western Disturbance active in the state for two days ended on Sunday. With this, the mercury reached zero in Mount Abu. Now there is a possibility of cold waves and dense fog covering the state till January 27. Cold wave prevailed in Jaipur on Sunday, mercury recorded 16 degrees during the day.

 

Delhi: People will be seen shivering due to the melting

 

According to the Meteorological Department, Monday will be a cold day in Delhi. That means it will be cold. People will be seen shivering because of the meltdown. At the same time, from January 25 to January 27, there will be moderate to dense fog in some areas. Fog will trouble people from January 28 to 29. The minimum temperature of Delhi from Monday to Wednesday will be 7 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the minimum temperature is expected to be 6 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday. The maximum temperature is likely to remain 15 to 18 degrees Celsius throughout the week.

 

On Sunday, Delhi broke the 122-year record of the highest rainfall in January. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the rain of the last two days has set a new record in Delhi. As of Sunday morning, 88.2 mm of rain has been recorded, which is the highest in January in years since 1901. The highest ever recorded before this is 79.3 mm of rain in 1989.

 

Hilly areas: Rain and snowfall will continue

 

Rain and snowfall continued over Jammu and Kashmir Valley. From Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Pir Panjal to Trikuta hills, Patnitop also received snowfall on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has said that the weather will improve from Monday.

 

On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh received the heaviest snowfall of the season. The mercury reached minus 0.3 degrees in Shimla with 20 cm of snowfall. There was 62 cm of snow in Kufri. Snowfall in Uttarakhand may continue for another 4 days. 731 roads including 4 national highways are closed due to heavy snowfall.

 

Punjab: January rains break a 10-year record

 

January rains in Punjab have broken the record of last 10 years. So far, 100 mm of rain has been received in 23 days, while 17.5 mm of rain has been received in one day during the last 24 hours. Rainfall ranged from 10 to 37 mm in 16 districts. According to Manmohan Singh, director of IMD Chandigarh, this has been seen after 1983 when January has received the highest rainfall.

 

Maharashtra: It may rain for the next two days in Mumbai.

 

The effect of the continuing cold across the country is visible in Mumbai as well. Mumbai received unseasonal rains on Saturday and Sunday and due to this, there has been a sharp drop in the temperature here. The minimum temperature has reached 16 degrees in many parts of Mumbai.

 

According to meteorologists, a severe cold will continue in Mumbai for the next one to two days. According to the Santacruz Meteorological Department, after 10 years, it has been so cold in Mumbai. The maximum temperature recorded in Mumbai (during the last 24 hours) till 8.30 am on Sunday is 23.5 degrees Celsius. It was 5.8 degrees below normal.

 

According to the Meteorological Department, low visibility and cold have increased in Mumbai due to heavy dust storms coming from Balochistan, Pakistan. This weather will continue for the next one to two days. Cities like Nashik, Pune, and Aurangabad recorded the maximum temperature below 25 degrees Celsius.
