Television and film actor Salim Ghosh, who has acted in Bollywood, South Indian, and English films, died of cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Thursday. According to his wife Anita and son Aryama, 70-year-old Salim Ghosh was taken to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Versova late on Wednesday, but his condition did not improve.
Born and educated there in Chennai, Ghosh later graduated from FTII, Pune, and then ventured into theatres. He was also a martial arts expert. Known for his roles in Bharat Ek Khoj, Wagle Ki Duniya, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, and Subah, Salim Ghosh gained popularity in Bollywood and South India alike. He made his acting debut in the year 1978 with the film Swarg Nark. After this, he also appeared in many films with some of the biggest stars and banners. The most important of these was the serial 'Bharat Ek Khoj' coming on DD. With this show, he got recognition from house to house.
Salim Ghosh was known for his outstanding performances, playing notable roles in several award-winning films such as Chakra (1981), Saransh, and Mohan Joshi Hajir Ho. Apart from this, he also appeared in both (1984), and Trikaal (1985). Also seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Koyla, also playing lead roles in films such as Mujrim, Shaath, Kamal Haasan's Vetri Visa, Mohanlal's Thajavaram, and Well Done Abba. He was last seen in the Tamil film Ka (2022).
It is said about him that as easily as he could speak Hindi dialogues, he was equally comfortable speaking dialogues in many languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and English. Her other films include Drohi (also in Telugu), Chinna Gounder (both 1992), Mani Ratnam's Thiruda Thiruda (1993), and Sardari Begum (1996). Soldier (1998), Indian (2001), and Missed Call (2005).
