Virat Kohli left the Test captaincy after the Test series loss in South Africa. Since then, there is a constant discussion in the corridors of cricket that who will be the next Test captain of India? The team's fast bowler Mohammed Shami has also given his opinion on this issue. Shami says that the team needs a leader in Test cricket.
The advantage of having the new captain's first series at home
Shami said, "Of course, the team needs a leader (in Test cricket). It is good that we have our first series at home with the new captain. So the captain gets some relief from getting acquainted with the conditions.
Team India has to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in February-March. According to Shami, players should perform well individually and take a bigger responsibility which will help in achieving positive results.
Rohit and Rahane are good options
Mohammed Shami said, 'I am not thinking much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn't want to captain the Indian team, but whatever responsibility is given to me, I will contribute to it.
But if you ask me, my focus will be more on how I perform and how the bowling unit performs. I am not thinking about who will take over the captaincy. We have Rohit Sharma, while Ajinkya Rahane is also there, but all that matters is the result.
More chances of Rohit becoming captain
Rohit Sharma was made the vice-captain of Team India for the South Africa Test series, but due to injury, he could not go on the tour. Rohit has already been made the new captain of the Indian team in ODIs and T20s and there is every possibility of him being made the captain in Tests as well.
At the same time, talking about Ajinkya Rahane, after being in poor form, Rahane was removed from the post of vice-captain in the Test format. At present, there have been questioning marks on whether he will also be included in the team against Sri Lanka.
