NSE Index Reshuffle: From Nifty 50 to Smallcap 250, Check All New Entries and Exits

Posted on 29th Sep 2026 03:26 pm by rohit kumar

The NSE Nifty index reshuffle will take effect from September 30, 2026, bringing significant changes across major benchmark indices, including the Nifty 50, Nifty Next 50, Nifty Midcap 150 and Nifty Smallcap 250.

According to estimates from Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research, the reshuffle could trigger sizeable passive fund inflows and outflows across several stocks. BSE is expected to see one of the largest inflows following its entry into the Nifty 50, while stocks moving out of major indices could face passive selling pressure.

Nifty 50 reshuffle: BSE enters, Wipro exits

The biggest change in the Nifty 50 is the replacement of Wipro by BSE.

BSE will enter the Nifty 50 effective September 30, while Wipro will move out of the benchmark and enter the Nifty Next 50. NSE Indices said BSE qualified for inclusion based on its six-month average free-float market capitalisation.

Nuvama estimates that BSE could attract substantial passive fund inflows following its Nifty 50 inclusion.

Nifty Next 50: Wipro among new entrants

Wipro's exclusion from the Nifty 50 does not mean it will leave the broader Nifty indices. The IT company is scheduled to enter the Nifty Next 50 from September 30.

Other companies entering the Nifty Next 50 include Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal and Vodafone Idea.

They will replace Indian Hotels Company, Lodha Developers, REC, Shree Cement and United Spirits in the index.

Stocks expected to see major passive inflows

Nuvama's analysis identifies several stocks that could see significant passive fund flows following the index changes.

The brokerage estimates the largest inflow across the affected indices for BSE, followed by Vedanta Aluminium, Adani Enterprises, Polycab India and Power India.

These figures are estimates of potential passive flows and should not be interpreted as guaranteed buying by index funds.

Nifty Midcap 150 reshuffle

The Nifty Midcap 150 will also undergo a major rebalancing, with multiple stocks moving into and out of the index.

Companies being added include:

Aster DM Quality Care

Embassy Office Parks REIT

Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore

Hindustan Copper

Indian Hotels Company

Indian Overseas Bank

Lodha Developers

Meesho

Narayana Hrudayalaya

Piramal Finance

REC

Shree Cement

United Spirits

Among the companies leaving the Nifty Midcap 150 are 3M India, ACC, Apollo Tyres, AWL Agri Business, BSE, Hitachi Energy India, Honeywell Automation India, KPIT Technologies, Polycab India, SJVN, Tata Elxsi, New India Assurance and Vodafone Idea.

Nifty Smallcap 250: Major changes

The Nifty Smallcap 250 will also see a significant reshuffle from September 30.

Among the stocks being added are ACC, Aether Industries, Apollo Tyres, Avanti Feeds, AWL Agri Business, Azad Engineering, Bagmane Prime Office REIT, Bharat Coking Coal, Black Box, Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Cupid, Fractal Analytics, Honeywell Automation India, INOX India, KPIT Technologies, MTAR Technologies, Sansera Engineering, Sterlite Technologies, TD Power Systems, Tata Elxsi and several Vedanta group companies.

The changes reflect the periodic review of NSE's broad-market indices and will become effective after the close of trading on September 29.

Why do Nifty index changes matter?

Index inclusion and exclusion can affect stocks because passive funds and exchange-traded funds that track an index may need to adjust their portfolios when constituents change.

A stock entering a major index can therefore experience additional demand from funds that replicate the index, while an excluded stock can face potential selling from such funds.
