Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and Kashmir at 7:56 pm on Thursday. According to the National Center for Seismology, its intensity on the Richter scale was 5.9. Its center was the Hindu Kush area, 79 km from Faizabad in Afghanistan.
New Year's Day also came in Delhi
The earthquake also hit Delhi on the first day of the new year i.e. Sunday late at night. The National Center for Seismology reported that a magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred at 1:19 am. Its center was at Jhajjar in Haryana. Its depth was 5 km below the ground. Although there was no harm in it.
The earthquake occurred thrice in November
Earlier on November 29, earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR. At that time the intensity was measured at 2.5 on the Richter scale. The western region of Delhi was the epicenter of the earthquake, which had a depth of 5 km.
On November 12, strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand. People had come out of their homes and offices after the earthquake. Then apart from Delhi, earthquake tremors were also felt in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Bijnor.
Earth shook in Pakistan for more than two minutes
Pakistani journalist Mansoor Ali Khan said in his tweet – The tremors of the earthquake in Islamabad were very strong. His influence in Lahore was very less. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the Pakistan Army. Its effect has also been seen in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. There is no news of any damage so far. The intensity of the earthquake has been reported as 5.5. According to the reports coming from Pakistan, tremors were felt for 2 minutes and 6 seconds. Although their intensity was not the same and it kept decreasing.
Three fault lines in Delhi-NCR
According to the National Center for Seismology, there are three fault lines in Delhi-NCR. Where there is a fault line, the epicenter of an earthquake is formed there. Delhi-NCR has the Delhi-Moradabad fault line, Mathura fault line, and Sohna fault line under the ground. According to geologists, the real cause of earthquakes is the rapid movement of tectonic plates.
Apart from this, earthquakes also occur due to meteor impact and volcanic eruption, mine testing, and nuclear testing. The intensity of an earthquake is measured on the Richter scale. On this scale, an earthquake of magnitude 2.0 or 3.0 is mild, while magnitude 6 means a strong earthquake.
5 Earthquake Zones in India
According to scientists, the earthquake risk varies from place to place in India. According to this danger, the country has been divided into four parts, such as Zone-2, Zone-3, Zone-4, and Zone-5. The least dangerous is Zone-2, and the most dangerous is Zone-5.
Zone-1: Western Madhya Pradesh, Eastern Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and parts of Odisha come. There is the least risk of the earthquake here.
Zone-2: Tamil Nadu, parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Haryana. There is a danger of an earthquake here.
Zone-3: Kerala, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Western Rajasthan, Eastern Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and some part of Madhya Pradesh comes. Earthquake tremors keep coming into this zone.
Zone-4: Metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Western Gujarat, Uttaranchal, hilly areas of Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar-Nepal border areas are included. There is a danger of an earthquake here.
Zone-5: This is the most dangerous area in terms of the earthquake. It includes the Kutch region of Gujarat, a part of Uttaranchal, and most of the northeastern states.
