Meghalaya's Sports Department has denied permission to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election rally at the PA Sangma Stadium, citing construction work. The BJP expressed its displeasure over this, alleging that the ruling National People's Party (NPP), Trinamool Congress, and other opposition parties are working together to stop the BJP wave in the state.
Alotgre Cricket Stadium is being considered as an alternative
Speaking to the media, District Election Officer Swapnil Tembe said, "It has been informed by the Sports Department that it would not be appropriate to host such a large gathering during the construction work at the stadium as it would interfere with the security of the material kept at the site." This will amount to abandonment. However, Alotgre Cricket Stadium is being considered as an alternative for the meeting."
Inaugurated in December last year
Built for Rs 127 crore, the stadium was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on December 16 last year. In such a situation, BJP's National General Secretary Rituraj Sinha said that he is surprised that how a stadium can be declared unavailable for a PM's rally two months after its inauguration.
The people of the state have made up their minds to support the BJP.
BJP national general secretary said, "Are Konrad Sangma and Mukul Sangma scared of us? They are trying to stop the BJP wave in Meghalaya. You can try and stop the PM's rally, but the people of the state have made up its mind to support the BJP." Sinha asserted that other parties were taken aback by the people's response to the rallies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other star campaigners of the BJP.
