Supreme Court: Will the petitions against the abrogation of Article 370 be listed or not? SC ready to consider

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it will consider an early listing of petitions challenging the Centre's decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

 

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha said we will first investigate and then give a date.

 

For the hearing, the top court will again have to constitute a five-judge bench.

Earlier on April 25 and September 23, a bench headed by the then CJI NV Ramana had agreed to list for hearing the petitions challenging the Centre's decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370. But the five-judge bench hearing the case included former Chief Justice Ramana and Justice R.K. Subhash Reddy has retired. In such a situation, the apex court will again set up a five-judge bench to hear the petitions.

 

Several petitions challenging the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370 and provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, which bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, were heard by Justice Ramana in 2019. was referred to a constitution bench headed by Let us inform you that in 2019, the Central Government had withdrawn the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370.
