The winter session of Parliament is expected to begin next month. Assembly elections are due in five states including Uttar Pradesh next year. Because of this, the session before the election is very important for both the government and the opposition. The winter session is likely to be held from November 29 to December 23.

According to news agency PTI, the winter session of Parliament is likely to start from the fourth week of November, and during this time the Covid-19 protocol will be strictly followed. It was told that the session will end before Christmas and during this time the session is likely to be held for about 20 days.

Significantly, next year, assembly elections are to be held in five states including Uttar Pradesh. Because of this also the winter session is very important. The session may start on November 29 and end around December 23. The winter session is very important for both the government and the opposition. Right now the opposition has issues like inflation, increase in fuel prices, increase in the prices of edible oil, recent attacks on civilians in Kashmir, and ongoing protests by farmer groups, through which it will prepare to surround the government in Parliament. On the other hand, the government can give immediate relief to the general public by taking some decisions in this session before the elections.

Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha sessions will be held simultaneously but members will have to follow physical distancing norms. The first few sessions may be held at different times so that there is no movement of people in the Parliament premises. MPs will be required to wear masks at all times during the winter session and may be asked to undergo a COVID-19 test.
