'Heavy tariff on India in 24 hours', Trump's threat will not break India-Russia friendship; What is the government's plan?

Posted on 6th Aug 2025 12:22 pm by rohit kumar

Despite India's strong protest against America's tariff, President Donald Trump's health has not been affected. He continues to threaten India in the same manner.

Now, Trump has called India a bad business partner and has talked about increasing the duty rates further in the next 24 hours. Exactly five days ago, on August 1, 2025, Trump signed an ordinance to impose a 25 percent tax on Indian imports, and now he has said that he is going to increase the duty rate significantly.

There has been no reaction from India at the time of writing this news. A day earlier, when Trump announced the increase in the duty rate on Indian imports, India had termed it unjust and unreasonable. India has also made it clear that it is not going to budge on its stand in the trade agreement.

Trump's statement about India

In an interview given to an American media channel, President Trump has said, "I don't want to say this about India, but it is the country that imposes the highest tariff. We do very little business with India because it imposes very high tariffs. India is not a good business partner country. It does a lot of business with us. But we don't do business with it. That is why we have imposed a 25 percent tax on them, but I think that in the next 24 hours we are going to increase the tariff rates on India significantly."

After this, Trump also raised the issue of India's purchase of energy from Russia and said, "India is fueling Russia's war machinery. I am not happy with this." Trump had said something similar a day earlier on the social media site Truth Social.

On this, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said, "America is still buying uranium from Russia. It is buying palladium from Russia for its electric vehicle industry. In such a background, targeting India is unjust and unfair. Like other countries, India will also take steps according to its national interests and economic security.''

India shows the mirror.

It is clear from this situation that the gap in diplomatic relations between India and America is widening. After keeping silent on the objectionable statements of the American President for two months, the Indian government has shown the mirror in a well-prepared diplomatic language.

Some experts are comparing the current situation of the two countries with the tension that arose between the two countries after India's nuclear test in 1998 or after India's female diplomat Devyani Khobragade was accused of visa fraud in 2013.

India refuses to bow down to America.

On both these occasions, India had refused to bow down to American pressure. The way Indian diplomats were treated in America in 2013, India treated American diplomats in the same way. India is not going to bow down to American pressure to do business with Russia.

Preparations are being made for Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India by the end of this year. Summit talks are held between India and Russia every year. In the year 2024, PM Modi went to Moscow for this.

Putin will come to New Delhi.

Now Putin has to come to New Delhi. To prepare for this, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is going to Russia this week. While Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will also visit Russia after this.
